Brief summary of the activity:

Viswa Samskrita dinam- World Sanskrit Day was organized by Department of Sanskrit, mLAC. The program was organized with an objective of creating awareness and celebrating the richness and greatness of the Classical language, Samskritam.

The program was inaugurated by welcoming all the participants and invited speaker by the welcome speech delivered by Sri. Mahesh Bhat, Asst. professor, Dept of Sanskrit. He also emphasized the significance of observing World Sanskrit Day. Sri. Mahesh Bhat highlighted the uniqueness of the language and its relevance in today’s world. The program was presided by the degree college principal, Dr. Shashikala A and PU college principal, Mrs. Saritha Bai. The invited chief guest addressed the gathering and brought out very important and enlightening facts regarding the essence of Sanskrit language and nationalism. She used a historical incident of Macaulay and his educational reforms during colonial India and tried to explain the importance of Sanskrit language as an inseparable component of Indian culture and identity. She also urged all students to learn conversational Sanskrit and to make it sure that they use it in day-to-day life.

Later cultural programs were carried out by Sanskrit students from different streams. Students presented groups songs in Sanskrit, “Sarala Bhasha Samskritam” and “Pathayema Samskritam” in chorus. This was followed by group dance for the Sanskrit song, “ Bharatiyah vayam”. Students staged a small scene of Kalidasa’s “Abhijnana Shaakutalam”, IV act, II scene. After the cultural programs, the program was officially ended by the vote of thanks rendered by Dr. Rajendra Bhat, HOD, Dept of Sanskrit. In the vote of thanks, Dr. Rajendra Bhat dedicated his heart felt gratitude to the chief guest and all others who helped in making the program a successful one.
