The Shifting dynamics of Centre-State Relations

Department of Political Science, mLAC organized an online webinar on the topic “The Shifting dynamics of Centre-State Realtions” on 27^th July 2021. Ms.Lakshmi.S, HoD, Political Science, mLAC welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker to audience.

Dr.Veena K, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Government Arts College, Ambedkar Veedi prefaced her presentation with evolution of Federalism in India and highlighted the different factors to be looked at the federal structure.

Some of the key points in the presentation were as follows:

• Creating new states/ Union territories. That the state has been able to diminish a state into a UT, without its consent.
• Introduction of GST- it strained the relations between centre and states/union territories. Unequal distribution of funds.
• The speaker also highlighted on the implementation of the goods and Services Tax.
• Decision making during pandemic.
• The gap between Centre and state.
