Overview
Vision & History
Established in 2006, the Department of Psychology has evolved to reflect the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the field. From its origins in combination with Sociology and Social Work, the department has expanded its reach:
- 2009–2010: Introduced the Journalism and Sociology combination (B.A.).
- 2013–2014: Launched a B.Sc. program with Botany and Zoology.
- 2024 onwards: Now offered as a B.Sc. degree in combination with Genetics and Biochemistry.
Current Programs
The department currently offers two robust undergraduate tracks:
- B.A. in Psychology, Journalism, and Sociology
- B.Sc. in Psychology, Genetics, and Biochemistry
Learning Environment
The department provides a learner-centric environment focused on academic excellence, value-based education, and contemporary psychological concepts. Facilities include a well-equipped psychology laboratory featuring standardized tools for assessing intelligence, personality, interests, and aptitudes. Beyond the classroom, we offer:

- Psychological and academic counseling for students and parents.
- A focus on holistic development, balancing academic rigor with emotional well-being.
Anarghya: The Psychology Forum
Founded on October 30, 2023, Anarghya (meaning "priceless" in Sanskrit) is the department’s dynamic platform for psychology enthusiasts.
- Philosophy: Valuing psychological curiosity, personal growth, and the unique contributions of every member.
- Experiential Learning: Moving beyond theory, the forum hosts interactive workshops, research initiatives, mental health awareness programs, themed fests, and visits to mental health institutions.
- Community: Nurturing a spirit of inquiry and collaboration, Anarghya prepares students for both personal and professional journeys.
Course Outcomes (CO)
I Year: Fundamentals & Perspectives
- Basic Psychological Processes: Comprehend major psychological perspectives and apply them to understand self and others.
- Scientific Inquiry: Bridge the gap between theory and practice through neurological and physiological studies of learning.
- Practicals: Develop skills in scientific reporting, intelligence testing, and the practical application of memory tests and brain dominance theories.
II Year: Developmental Psychology
- Human Development: Analyze the interdependence of cognitive, psychosocial, and physical domains from conception through old age.
- Life Stages: Understand family dynamics, the principles of successful aging, and the spiritual/physical aspects of grief and bereavement.
- Practicals: Administer peer pressure and emotional maturity scales to adolescents and use inventories to assess the health of individuals in later life stages.
III Year: Abnormal & Industrial Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology:
- Classify psychological disorders and understand their symptoms, assessments, and treatments.
- Learn to distinguish between normal and abnormal behavior patterns to advocate for mental health services.
- Practicals: Utilize diagnostic and counseling tests to create professional psychological reports.
- Industrial (I/O) Psychology:
- Apply psychological principles to improve workplace productivity, safety, and employee morale.
- Master the nuances of selection, placement, and performance appraisal.
- Practicals: Assess career interests in adolescents and recognize professional abilities using psychometric tools.
