Department of Commerce was started in 1983 with the vision of striving towards continuous academic excellence, having an emphasis on women empowerment and enhancing the prospects of the students in advanced studies and overseas employment. The Department has developed over the past three decades and has transcended all precincts in diverse areas of academic pursuits with the current strength of 1000 students. The Department adopts diverse teaching methodologies to facilitate students to develop an array of skill-sets and social responsibilities, which is vital in Commerce education.

The Department of Commerce, mLAC has been the pioneers in the establishment of Business Lab on 28th October 2004 which is the first of its kind in Bangalore University. The primary purpose of setting up this lab was to provide practical education with the impetus to students to apply their academic theory into practical application.

The Commerce Students’ Association (Akanksha) consisting of young and enthusiastic student leaders organize the annual inter-class and inter collegiate fest and various community development activities. The students' best creative, leadership and creative talent can be presented on this platform.

• E-Cell:

“It’s not about idea, it’s about making ideas happen”.

E-Cell mLAC- Student Self Help Group Initiative is an E-Cell Association, based on the SHG concept of women empowerment and capacity building for students', inaugurated on 14th August 2019. It facilitates students to improve and build on their skill sets and utilize the same for income generation. It also concentrates on involvement of students towards contributing for the advancement of the society. Presently the E-Cell association consists of around 250 student members. The entrepreneurship cell conducts a number of guest lectures and workshops to nurture budding entrepreneurs.

“The budget is not just a technical instrument compiling income and expenditure. It is the most important policy statement which reflects the fundamental values underlying national policy.”

To educate the students on the importance of union budget and make them aware of the recent economic trends of the nation, sessions on ‘Union Budget - Analysis and Panel Discussion’ are organized every year.
